Getting a Lao Telecom SIM as a physical card is straightforward with a passport at any shop or service centre. Getting their eSIM specifically, by Lao Telecom’s own published process, means an in-person service-centre visit to activate — there’s no online self-service issuance the way we do it for Unitel. Getting a registered Lao Telecom line

Lao Telecom’s own eSIM: officially available — you can activate a new number on eSIM or convert an existing one — but by their published process this happens at a service centre, not through a self-service online flow. Lao Telecom also promotes tourist data eSIMs on social media from time to time, but online purchase in English isn’t consistently available the way a dedicated eSIM shop offers it.
The dual-SIM reality, honestly stated
Independent speed tests don’t agree on a single winner: nPerf’s most recent measurement periods put Lao Telecom ahead on latency and streaming, while Unitel has typically had the broader rural footprint.
