For a short trip covering Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the main islands, all three perform similarly — you won’t notice a difference. The same short-term data from a city store, a 7-Eleven, or an operator’s own app frequently costs less, sometimes 199–399 THB for comparable or better allowances — so there’s a real airport premium, though it tends to run milder here than in some neighboring countries. It’s not really a scam — the counter is just selling convenience, and staff genuinely handle activation fast, usually 10–20 minutes even when the queue is long. What it does mean: passport plus a live photo for KYC, in person, right after you land, and tourist SIMs are typically capped at a couple of months’ validity.
