How to Activate Your eSIM in Laos – Step by Step Guide

The process is quick, and you can even install the eSIM profile before arriving in Laos. Activation happens only when you land.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Install Your eSIM Profile

• After your order, you’ll receive a QR code.
• Open your phone’s Settings → Mobile/Cellular → Add eSIM.
• Scan the QR code.
• Your eSIM profile will now be stored on your device. You can do this from anywhere in the world – no need to wait until you are in Laos.

Step 2: Arrive in Laos

• When you land in Laos, make sure your eSIM line is enabled in your phone’s settings.
• Your device will connect to the local Unitel network.

Step 3: Activation Is Automatic

• There is nothing to dial. The moment your phone connects to the Unitel network after you land, your package activates automatically.
• Important: your package validity starts counting down from that automatic connection (for example, a 7-day package will expire 7 days after your phone first connects to Unitel).
• No IVR, no manual trigger, no in-store registration — just switch on data roaming/mobile data and let your phone connect.

Step 4: Confirm Activation

• To check if your package is active, dial *122#.
• You will receive an SMS with your balance and package details. The message will be in Lao.

Step 5: Translate the SMS (Optional)

• If you don’t read Lao, open Google Lens (built into Google Translate or your camera app on most phones).
• Point it at the SMS to instantly translate the content into English.
